The
River Adur is home to a wide variety of interesting flora and
fauna. Wading birds, geese, wildfowl, and many other types of
birds can be easily observed around the Centre.
The river bed has a very interesting variety of molluscs, crustaceans
and fish, which young people in particular find fascinating.
“Mud
Matters” is a popular activity with these younger groups.
This involves investigating the marine life in the rock pools
and riverbed adjacent to the Centre. The activity is wet and dirty
and that adds to the enjoyment for the youngsters! In addition
we include some information about the local tidal movement, environmental
issues and the bird life.
The Mud Matters session can be used as an introduction to Environmental
issues and some school groups have used this session as a way
to introduce a project on the subject.
